Police Warning of CRA Phone and E-mail Scams

The OPP says it continues to get daily complaints about CRA phone scams in the region.

Police say scammers will pretend to be with the Canada Revenue Agency, and try to make people pay for outstanding debts with prepaid gift cards.

You are being warned to be vigilant if you get a call, a letter, text message, or an e-mail from someone claiming to be with the CRA.

The OPP recommends you ask yourself why the agency would be asking for personal information they already have on file, and why they would ask for payments through gift cards.

You can contact the CRA to confirm you owe any money, by using a number you find yourself.
