Some hospital workers are getting a six per cent wage increase, over two years after bargaining deals, it was announced this past Friday morning.

That deal includes three per cent raises for some unionized Ontario hospital workers each year, as well as improvements to health and dental benefits, enhancements to weekend, evening, and night premiums, and pay for periods of quarantine or isolation.

At the Bancroft hospital hospital workers represented by SEIU will receive the wage increases.

At the Barrys Bay hospital workers represented by CUPE will receive the increase.

According to Michael Hurley Ontario Council of Hospital Unions (OCHU)-CUPE president, 150 sites of 90 hospitals across Ontario are covered by both arbitration decisions for OCHU-CUPE and SEIU Healthcare workers.

“Todays decision will lift the spirits of hospital workers who are struggling with impossible workloads in a staff retention crisis” he said Friday
