Hastings County’s health unit looks to curb opioid overdoses

Hastings County’s health unit is launching a new program to address opioid drugs overdoses .

Hastings and Prince Edward Public Health says it is launching a community-based Naloxone distribution program, called the Lifesaver Program. The program will be offered to opioid users.

The health unit says Naloxone is a safe, effective, and non-addictive medication which reverses the effects of an overdose.

The program involve training people to recognize the signs of an overdose, and the importance of calling 911 in case one were to happen.

The program is expected to be launched this fall.
