Renfrew County and OPP Advise School Bus and Road Safety for Back-to-School Season

Renfrew County and the OPP are advocating safety as students get ready for the back-to-school season.

Constable Catherine Yarmel says the OPP is primarily concerned with drivers this fall and making education a big component of enforcement.

Passing a school bus while it has its stop-arm and lights flashing incurs some of the harshest fines any driver can face.

She says the rules apply to any roadway, whether it be in front of an intersection or if there are two lanes.

The county and police are asking drivers to use caution during this time of year, especially near schools and in neighbourhoods.

She says the OPP is primarily concerned with the increased number of students attending the amalgamated Madawaska Valley District High School as it’s a high-traffic area.
