The next time you’re near Bancroft, you can pick up some meat, cheese and your mail.

The new L’Amable post office outlet is now located at Annie’s deli, which many know as the sight of the old Red Steer butcher.

As of this Monday it is fully operational and about 65 general delivery L’Amable residents will get their mail there.

The deli which was opened last November by husband and wife Mac and Charlene, offers a great variety of foods.

Mac says their eclectic mix means people drive from all over, bringing customers from places like Barry’s Bay, Wilberforce and Combermere.

“Well, there’s definitely some unique products in our deli” said Mac, “3 different types of head cheese, our bacon is very popular. We have lots of choices of cheese and salami, pickles, sauerkraut, salted herring, smoked mackerel, smoked salmon. Once a week we have cabbage rolls”

He also says that every time they put in an order they try something new to see what people like. They also enjoy hearing from customers about products they’d like to see in the shop.

And as for how Annie’s got it’s name, Mac explained that when they bought the business last fall, just as they were signing their paperwork, they got a phone call that their granddaughter had just been born and her name would be: Annie.

The postal outlet at Annie’s is open weekdays from 9am to noon and 3pm to 5:30.
