An annual tradition that celebrates the region’s strong arts community continues in Barry’s Bay this weekend.

The Madawaska Valley Artisan Festival takes place on Saturday, July 8th. About 15 artists will be showing their work in the park by The Railway Station from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Township Recreation Coordinator Hannah Gutoskie says the event showcases the wide variety of different art made by people throughout the Valley.

“There will be paintings, we’ll have hand-crafted wool, there’s jewelry, there’s hair accessories, there’s furniture, photography. We have a maple syrup vendor this year,” she says. “The term artisan can be applied to a lot of folks, so we have a lot of variety, which is awesome.”

Gutoskie says the event has a long history and it made a return last year after a few COVID-year absences. She says the good turnout of arts supporters from last year has her hopeful for an even stronger turnout this year.
