The County of Renfrew is offering congratulations to a local lake association for their removal of an invasive species from a roadside in Barry’s Bay.

The County has acknowledged the work of Carson Trout, Lepine and Greenan Lakes Associaton to remove invasive phragmites from Combermere Road, south of Barry’s Bay. The County says the work of Wendy Wolak, chair of the organization, and several volunteers successfully removed the plant from the affected area.

The County adds that Phragmites are considered Canada’s worst invasive species. This is because it can grow quickly, affect agriculture, cause road safety hazards, and impact swimming, boating and angling.
