If you live within the limits of the urban parts of Madawaska Valley, you can’t burn outside.

That’s according to Fire Chief Corwin Quade, who says over the last few weeks, the fire department has had to respond to multiple complaints about open-air burning. He adds that if you live in the village limits of Barry’s Bay or the hamlets of Combermere or Wilno, there are no exceptions to the no-burning rule in those towns.

Quade adds that there is no daytime burning anywhere in the township until October 31st and that fires over 2-foot-square must have a permit. Fines for burning can be up to $615, and if fire trucks are called, they will cost $518 per hour per truck, for a minimum of two hours.
