Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation is bringing back its annual celebration near Golden Lake.

The Indigenous community’s “Traditional Pow-Wow,” last held in 2019, is returning later this month. The event was canceled in 2020 and 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Admission is free to this year’s celebration, which is being held over two days, with grand entrance ceremonies at noon and 7:00 PM on August 20th and another at noon on the 21st.

The Pow-Wow is being held two kilometres off of Highway 60 near Golden Lake. Drugs and alcohol won’t be permitted at the event, and people are also being asked to leave their pets at home.

Past Pow-Wows have also caused bumper-to-bumper traffic near the celebration, so if you’re planning a trip through Golden Lake that weekend, you might want to account for delays while planning your route.
