A major fundraiser for local healthcare has finally arrived.

The Kamaniskeg Lake Property Owners Association will be kicking off their long-awaited Poker Run this Saturday, July 23rd. Bruce Willmer, the event’s organizer, says that they will accept registrations at the Barry’s Bay boat launch on the day of the event. Participants are asked to arrive around 8:30, where they will receive a package of the map, the rules, and a waiver form.

Boats will be leaving Barry’s Bay and will attend several docks throughout Kamaniskeg Lake before ending the day at Hinterland Beach. Willmer says it is best to drive to the beach for the event, although beech space will be available for boats.

The Poker Run raises funds for the St. Francis Valley Healthcare Foundation, and this year their goal is to buy a portable respirator for the hospital. The machine is used to stabilize patients in respiratory distress and helps in the transport of patients from one place to the other. Willmer says any additional funds raised will go to further equipment purchases.
