While not quite there yet, the Renfrew County District Health Unit says they are getting close to inoculating the vast majority of residents in the area.

In their latest update, they say 88.8 percent of people aged 12 and up have a first dose of the vaccine, and 85.1 percent have had a second or third dose. This means that over 157,000 shots have been given through vaccination clinics put on by the health unit.

According to their data, the Health Unit points to younger groups still lagging behind in their vaccine rates. Only 65 percent of adults aged 30 to 39 have been fully inoculated, as opposed to 90 percent of those 60 and up. Among youth, some of the highest rates of vaccination are found among those between the ages of 12 to 17, with over 80 percent having received at least one shot.

Currently, the Health Unit is pushing those who are pregnant to get their second dose of a COVID-19 vaccine as soon as possible. They say along with keeping pregnant women safe, it will give the baby some protection against the virus when born.
