After being shuffled out of his job as Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry, MPP John Yakabuski will now serve a different role.

The Member of Parliament for Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke will now take over the role of Parliamentary Assistant for Premier Doug Ford himself. Yakabuski says it’s a great honour to be selected for the role. Before his tenure as Minister of Natural Resources and Forestry, Yakabuski served as the Minister of Transportation.

A Parliamentary Assistant’s job is to support ministers or in this case the Premier, with legislative and committee matters. According to the Government of Ontario, they oversee special projects and assignments and play a key role in building relationships and communicating government initiatives.

The role is nothing new for the Yakabuski family. Paul Yakabuski, John’s father, served as parliamentary assistant to the Minister of Natural Resources from 1975 until 1985.
