With projections saying COVID-19 is peaking in Ontario, the Ontario Government has put togeather a task force to help re-open the economy.
The Ontario Jobs and Recovery Committee will include MPP for Renfew-Nipissing-Pembroke and Minister of Natural Resources John Yakabuski. The Minister says the committee will work to find ways to safely restart the economy. The MPP said there need to restart the economy and get it to its peak capacity, but it has to be done in a way that would not erase the gains the community has sacrificed for. Yakabuski says his inclusion in the task force is due to the economic aspects of his ministry. These areas include logging, fishing, oil and gas, and tourism. In addition, the Minister said there were plans to help the lumber industry through this time as demand for lumber has dropped along with the economy.
Yakabuski says that these are unprecedented times. He says not even major events like the Ice storm of ’98, the economic crash of 2008 or even 9/11 had the impact that COVID-19 has had. He thanked all front line workers for their service so far during the pandemic
