Ontario government community infrastructure funding is coming to Renfrew county.

MPP John Yakabuski says that through the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund, money will become available to build and repair roads, bridges, and water related infrastructure. $6 million will be spread across 20 municipalities to address their infrastructure needs.

The Madawaska Valley will receive over $177,000. The city of Pembroke will receive almost $700,000, while towns like Renfrew, Petawawa and Arnprior will receive $840,000, $401,000 and $571,000 respectively. The township of Bonnchere Valley will receive $267,000, North Algona-Wilberforce will receive $197,000, and Killaloe Hagarty Richards will get $100,000. Small townships like Greater Madawaska and Head, Clara and Maria will receive the lowest amounts at $50,000 each. The County itself will be given around $1.36 million.

Yakabuski said that he is upholding his commitment to supporting local municipalities by creating jobs and attracting investment and growth. The money is part of a $200 million fund to over 400 communities for core infrastructure projects. Eligible communities must be either considered rural or northern, with populations under 100,000 people.
