The NDP candidate for Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke is promoting a variety of programs she says will help ordinary Canadians.

Eileen Jones-Whyte sat down with My Barry’s Bay Now to talk about her candidacy for the riding. The platform she is promoting from the NDP includes universal pharma care and dental care,  creation of affordable housing, reducing dependency on fossil fuels, lowering the cost of phone and internet bills, meeting the Paris Climate Accords while also helping retrofit homes, create high quality food while implementing protection to farmers, and promoting the lumber industry in the county through green technology. Jones-Whyte said she feels personally felt despair in recent years, saying that she worked whole life to promote justice and felt that work was backsliding. She says as a teacher and an active community volunteer, she sees the community struggling. But she also says that with a little bit of support, all members of society do better.

Jones-Whyte says that the dental and pharma care plans the NDP is proposing will help make ends meet for residents of Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke, saying that they can put those costs on their health card rather than their credit card. On climate, she says that her party’s plan will invest in new green technology, much of which is wood based. She also says she supports retrofitting buildings to make them more eco-friendly. In order to pay all for all this, Jones-Whyte says the party will implement a 1% tax increase on people with $20 million or more in assets. She also advocates closing tax loopholes. She says while the Conservatives will reduce taxes, she says that most people in the riding will not feel the benefit.

Overall, Jones-Whyte says she is aiming to put money into the pockets of working Canadians. She says the NDP has the momentum to oust the conservatives and help people in rural Ontario. She says that the NDP reflects the values of the community, which she says are to help those in need and who are struggling. She also mentioned that she has won the support of life long Liberals and Conservatives, and urges people to vote for the candidate who can best represent the riding.
