A local distiller wants to keep farmers busy.

Andrew Kenny, owner of O’Kenny Crafts and Spirits says the company’s excited to announce that Renfrew County will have its own craft spirit distillery. A statement was sent out saying that the company had purchased a property at 2 International Drive in Pembroke.

He says that his distillery will be buying barley and grains locally which won’t force farmers to lose profit by shipping down to Southern Ontario.

The Pembroke distillery is still being set up and Kenny says that for the next few weeks he’ll be putting the final touches to a premium vodka which will be available in local bars and restaurant. He says by doing this and putting on events showcasing his alcohol, he’ll be able to gauge if people will be willing to change brands and spend on buying local.
