If you’re driving this long weekend, make sure to put your phone down.
That’s the message from Upper Ottawa Valley OPP Constable Shawn Peever, who says police will be on the lookout for distracted drivers this Labour Day Weekend.
Peever says if you see a distracted driver there’s steps you can take to make sure you can help including calling police. He says if you’re with someone who is texting and driving, you should speak up and be firm with them.
Distracted driving was a factor in 83 deaths on OPP roads in 2017, which is more than speeding, alcohol and lack of seatbelts were responsible for. The long-weekend campaign wraps up on Monday, September 3rd.
