Residents Being Urged Not To Flush Wipes Down Toilets

Residents are being asked not to flush wipes down the toilet.

According to a Town of Renfrew release, wipes can plug sewer pipes if put down the drain or flushed down the toilet. This is because they don’t break down in the sewer systems and can result in backups and even basement floods, which can lead to insurance claims or damage to sewer plant equipment.

Diapers and dental floss can also plug up your sewer system, as well as paper towels. As an alternative, it’s suggested that you just throw these items out instead.
