The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry has approved a lower draw-down limit for the Bonnechere River.

The news was revealed in a letter between the Township of Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards and the MNRF. The amendment now allows a 50 cm lower draw-down limit on Round Lake from 170.10 to 169.60. The draw down will occur between January 1st and May 12th. In order to achieve a lower draw-down, and due to fish spawning concerns, the draw-down will also take place over the fall months as well. Lower limits for the fall were also amended.

The amendment had been the subject of massive consultation, with input taken from property owners around the area as well as local first nations. These consultations took place throughout the summer after the spring flooding that left many property owners with excessive damage to their homes and cottages. It is hoped that this lower draw-down will ease the impact excessive flooding in the coming years.

The amendment was implemented October 3rd and is effective immediately.
