Bancroft and Central Hastings OPP Detachments could Amalgamate

A review is underway looking into if the Bancroft and Central Hastings OPP detachments could be amalgamated.

The OPP says it continuously evaluates its operations to seek efficiencies and keep policing affordable for all the communities it services. This is one way of doing that.

While Bancroft has been assured service levels won’t be affected, the town does have some concerns about the proposal. Mayor Paul Jenkins says, based on the unique nature of Bancroft, it would not make sense to become part of the Central Hastings OPP detachment.

Jenkins says the town will push to have the lead detachment office in Bancroft if the two OPP services were amalgamated.

Centre Hastings Mayor Tom Deline says he understands why the province is looking at ways to revamp and save money. But, Deline also says this is the first time he’s been made aware of the review.

Both communities are asking to be involved in the review.

No decisions have yet been made, and the OPP says it will work with the affected communities should the amalgamation process be considered.
