One month after launching, the Madawaska Valley Fitness Centre is close to reaching its visitor goal.

Recreation and Community Development Coordinator Paul Nopper gave an update on the fitness centre during yesterday’s (Thursday’s) township Recreation, Heritage and Culture Committee meeting.

He says the opening of the facility has brought six jobs to Barry’s Bay. Nopper says there were 134 memberships sold and 484 total visits in October.

He says staff are working on new programs like yoga, zumba, floor hockey, badminton and the Steve Nash basketball program for kids.
