Police Sharing How to Protect Yourself from Scams at Tax Time

You need to file your income taxes by this Sunday, and police want you to be on the lookout for scammers claiming to be with the CRA.

That comes directly from our local OPP.

Constable Philippe Regamey says you could get a call from a scammer, using forceful language to ask for immediate payment of outstanding taxes or for financial information.

Regamey says the CRA would not do that.

Regamey reminds you that your best defence if you’re concerned about a caller is to just hang up.

The Madawaska Valley Friendship Club and Killaloe OPP are hosting a special presentation on how to do just that on Thursday, May 4th at 7:00pm from the Combermere Community Centre.
