Killaloe foodbank is fundraising, saying their need has doubled since the pandemic.

Foodbank director Maureen Macmillan says that now help is needed now more then ever.

“We along with everyone else are really feeling the pinch of this. You know the rising cost of groceries, the rising cost of utilities, it hits our food bank too. So we are stepping up our fundraising a little bit just so we can remain sustainable”

Macmillan, who is also a councillor for Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards, says they are looking at different ways to fundraise,

“We have an open house coming up on April the 6th. We’re hoping we’re going to sell some baked goods. We’re hoping to bring people into the food bank so they can actually see what we give to people in terms of food and get to meet us” Said Macmillan, “And you know, if they want to volunteer, it’s a great time to come out and talk to us”

Macmillan also listed some of the food donations that are always appreciated,

“Real tuna fish. Peanut butter. Any kind of pasta, canned vegetables are good. We like people to keep in mind that we have children, families with kids accessing our food bank, and so things like granola bars and juice boxes and things that just make kids feel normal when they go to school”

She said a full list is available on the Killaloe foodbank facebook page.

For anyone wishing to drop off non-perishable food donations the food bank bin in the Library Hall is open 8:30-4:30 Monday to Friday. You can find it near the book sale books.
