If you heard a loud cheer coming from the Yakabuski Centre on Saturday night, it was the sound of Madawaska Valley Wolves fans celebrating a win.

The new Eastern Ontario Senior Hockey League team beat the Tweed Oil Kings, 6-5, at the Barry’s Bay-based arena, in a game billed as the Christmas Classic.

Robert Lepine scored the winning goal in overtime, capping a five-point night for the Killaloe native.

The Wolves now have a record of 5 wins, 6 losses, 2 overtime wins and 1 overtime loss on the year.

The Wolves have a rematch against the Kings, again at home, on Saturday, Dec. 16.  Puck drop is 7 p.m. at the Yakabuski.
