Some local groups hope to get new people hooked on fishing this weekend.
The Carson Trout Lepine and Greenan Lakes Association and Kamaniskeg Area Property Owners Association are holding Learn to Fish events on Sunday, Aug 6.
The free sessions are at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Omanique Beach Trail, off Lakeshore Drive and Island Lane in Barry’s Bay.
Organizer Angelo Mosca says participants will be given equipment and a temporary fishing licence for the day and paired with an experienced angler who can show them the ropes.
“This is geared at all levels of people: kids, experienced fisherpeople, non-experienced, males, females,” he says. “Basically, it’s come out, have some fun and learn the basics of fish and fishing.”
