A travelling play that pays homage to an Algonquin Park-inspired artist is making three stops in the region over the coming weeks.

The Stone Fence Theatre show is called Tom Thomson and The Colours of Canada.

The play’s writer, Ish Theilheimer, says it was inspired by books written about Thomson by renowned journalist Roy MacGregor. He believes the play will connect with local people who’ve grown up close to Algonquin Park.

“We’ve all got close relationships with the park,” he says. “All of us have been in and out of the park for all of our lives. But not all of us know the history of the park.”

“The play goes back to the early days of the park and there’s quite a bit of park history interwoven into the plot. I like to say the park is really the hero of the play.”

The show comes to Emond Hall in Maynooth on Friday, July 28. And then a free show takes place on Tuesday, Aug. 1 at the Algonquin Park Outdoor Theatre.

A third show takes place at the Yakabuski Centre in Barry’s Bay on Aug. 15 Proceeds for that show will support the St. Francis Valley Healthcare Foundation. The start time for each show is 7 p.m.
