South Algonquin Township says it’s re-opening the Major Lake Road Bridge, which was shut on Monday, forcing evacuations.

The Township says the bridge, which covers the Madawaska River, is safe for passenger vehicles, but will have load restrictions for now.

Some roads in the area have reopened but Madawaska Street, from Algonquin Street to the end, is still closed, as is Bennett Road.

Also, the ATV trail at Rapid Lake in Whitney is closed, due to a washout.
