A Flood Warning has been issued for the Upper Madawaska River Watershed.
The warning is for areas along the York, Madawaska, Opeongo and Little Mississippi rivers.
Ministry of Natural Resources officials say runoff to local lakes and rivers has been increasing over the past week and will continue to increase as a result of recent warm temperatures and rainfall.
The Ministry also says if you live in an area that’s been affected by high water in the past, you should take action now to protect vulnerable property.
The warning is in effect until Monday.
Water receding in South Algonquin, but several roads still closed
South Algonquin Township officials say Madawaska River water is receding in an area that forced an evacuation earlier this week.
The Major Lake Road Bridge was closed Monday night. About 30 people in the area were asked to leave their homes, as water approached the top of the bridge.
Engineers will inspect the bridge on Thursday, after which it could re-open if deemed safe.
The Township, located just east of Algonquin Park, is working with Ontario Parks and the Ministry of Natural Resources to reduce water flows on the Madawaska and protect properties and infrastructure.
It’s still dealing with several road closures caused by floods.
Township officials say McKenzie Lake Road is closed from the north entrance off Highway 127 to Proven Line. The road is accessible from the south entrance, off Highway 127. Madawaska Street is closed at Algonquin Street junction, to the end. Bennett Road is also closed.
However, sections of Old 127 that were closed earlier, have now re-opened.
Parcher Road to close Thursday
One Madawaska Valley road that’s experienced flooding of late will be completely shut down on Thursday.
The Township says Parcher Road, in the area of the Hastings Townline, will be closed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., as a culvert is being replaced.
The road, which is near the Madawaska River, northewest of Combermere, will be fully closed to traffic during these hours.
