Be careful around water; Madawaska River expected to rise

Get ready for rising water along the Madawaska River.

The Ministry of Natural Resources has issued a Water Safety statement for the area.

It says flows on the river that leads into Barry’s Bay are increasing as snow is melting. Water will also be high in Kamaniskeg Lake. The Ministry says these water bodies will likely continue to rise over the next five to seven days.

It asks people living in flood-prone areas to monitor conditions closely. And it asks people to stay away from watercourses where flows are high, as banks may be unstable.

You can read the full statement here.
