OPP to enforce seatbelt wearing over Easter weekend

Fasten your seatbelts this Easter-long weekend.

That message comes from Killaloe OPP, which says it will participate in a provincial traffic safety campaign focussed on seatbelt wearing.

OPP says all drivers and passengers must be properly restrained in vehicles, regardless of how short their trip is.

Police also say young children must be in car seats and seatbelt use for passengers under age 16 is the responsibility of the driver.

The fine for not wearing a seatbelt is $240, plus two demerit points off your driver’s licence.

And while seatbelt use is the focus of the campaign, Killaloe OPP says officers will also be paying attention to what they call “The Big 4” factors that lead to collisions and injuries. They are impaired driving, distracted driving, aggressive driving and “lack of occupant restraint.”
