New Valley Manor getting close to construction stage

It’s been in the planning stages for years, but work to build a new long-term care home in Barry’s Bay is in the homestretch.

The project to replace the current Valley Manor has surpassed three of four milestones, according to an online update.

The remaining milestone is for officials to submit a tender for construction.

Land has already been secured, behind St. Francis Memorial Hospital, for the new building and plans have been submitted to the province.

The update says that Manor officials met recently with MPP John Yakabuski and Renfrew County Warden Peter Emon who agreed the project should be expedited, because of the high need for long-term care in the rural region.

The new building will have 96 beds, six more than what’s at the current Manor, located on Mintha Street.
