The Renfrew County District health unit has confirmed its second death from COVID-19 since the pandemic began.

However the RCDHU is reporting that out of 297 total people who have contracted the virus, 290 have recovered. They say that the number of COVID cases had increased five times since September. During that time, 103 people had tested positive. They also report that there was a rise in cases in January due to holiday travel.

The news comes as Renfrew County and District will join seven other health units in allowing in-person learning in schools on January 25th. Dr. Robert Cushman, Acting Medical Officer of Health, says despite this, now is not the time to let our guard down. He states that it’s his hope that keeping the numbers low and rolling out the vaccines will put this whole affair behind us.
