Early Childhood Educators and High School Teachers Walk Off the Job For One Day

The One Day Teacher’s Strike begins today, and for those in Renfrew County it isn’t just high school students staying home today.
Early Childhood Educators in the Renfrew County District School Board are part of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation.
As a result no Kindergarten classes will be held in the RCDSB today, citing concerns for child safety.
RCDSB Communication’s director Jonathan Laderoute says the unique situation is because Early Childhood Educators were able to negotiate better concessions from the OSSTF when joining that union.
No mention of the strike arose at a school board meeting last night.
The OSSTF and the Provincial Government continue to be locked in negotiations.

Provincial Education Minister Stephen Lecce called on the union to abandon the strike, while the OSSTF says they haven’t received a new proposal in days.

All Catholic Schools remain open.
