CFB Petawawa is taking part in a massive training exercise.

The Canadian Armed Forces says over 600 soldiers will be training at the military base until August 25th as part of Exercise Stalwart Guardian. The Armed Forces says the two week long field training exercise involves soldiers from the Regulars and Reserves from across Ontario. The troops will be testing what the army calls a realistic scenario for the 4th Canadian Division. The exercise also tests the troops’ skills in a dynamic battle space. The Armed Forces says the troops will focus on developing skills and leadership to ensure maximum readiness.

Exercise Stalwart Guardian in total will comprise almost 1000 soldiers by the second week in Petawawa and the 4th Dvision’s Training Center in Meaford. The drills are part of the Road to High Readiness training program, which makes sure soldiers are ready to deploy at any time. They say each division in the army will participate in the program every three years. The Armed Forces says that it ensures the readiness of the Army Reserve, which is filled with fully qualified soldiers who train weekly and serve part-time in the army.
