An overnight fire kept the Pembroke Fire Department Busy last night.

The department was dispatched to a fire at an apartment building on Noik Drive around 3:45 AM. The department said there was smoke in the lower levels and some tenants were still inside the building. Firefighters entered the building and removed the tenants. They say they knocked the fire down quickly, containing it to the lower level apartment. 20 firefighters attended the scene.

The department is still on scene and is expected to be there throughout the morning. They are currently determining the cause and origin of the fire. The departments says approximately 12 tenants were displaced. The PD says there was minimal damage to the rest of the buildings, but it is unknown when tenants will return to their apartments. OPP, paramadics and Ottawa River Power are were on scene for assistance.
