The Renfrew School Board’s Parent Involvement Committee gave a presentation Thursday night at Madawaska Valley District High School.

The PIC showed off a toolbox that would help parents get involved with their school councils. School councils are made of parents looking to improve the quality of education and community engagement. Councils then advise principles on the best course of action. The toolbox offered tips and guidelines for setting up meetings, enhancing student achievement, keeping lines of communication open and focusing on student achievement. The PIC is funded by the provincial government through grants, and also offers other services, such as helping children with homework and consultation to enhance parent engagement.

Madawaska District High School Principle Dean Zadow said that he wants parents to be comfortable communicating with the school council and administration on ideas that will help the school thrive. He says he wants the school to be a hub for the community.

To access the toolkit and find out ways to get involved with your child’s education, visit the PIC website.
