OPP Says Clear The Snow Off Your Car

Not clearing the snow off your car could cost.

Constable Janice Sawbridge of the OPP’s Renfrew detachment says that being able to see all around you when you’re driving your vehicle this winter is very important. She says that if a chunk of ice or snow flies off your vehicle and hits another car, you could get charged with carrying an “insecure load”. Charges for this, under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), start at $130. If you’re a commercial vehicle driver, she says your fine starts at $310.

She adds that the drivers they are targeting are the ones who think scraping a couple of inches in their front windshield will do or drivers who leave a large amount of snow on the hood of their vehicles. Under the HTA, fines start at $85 for having a window or windshield that has an obstructed view and she says you can add $85 per additional window that is deemed to cause an obstructed view.
