There have been multiple reports of gas theft over the past few weeks in Renfrew County.
That’s why Constable Janice Sawbridge with the Renfrew OPPĀ is making sure people are more careful when filling up. “It’s generally a mistake,” Sawbridge says. It’s usually a case of people not checking to make sure their debit or credit card successfully went through and driving off. Sawbridge says people need to start checking that to make sure they have paid for their gas.
There have been multiple attempts of people purposefully stealing gas though, Sawbridge says. “It’s becoming a little more common recently,” she says. She suggests that gas station attendants pay closer attention to security cameras and, if needed, speak to the customer over the intercom so they know you’re watching.
