Take Back the Night has been giving woman of Renfrew County a voice for the past 26 years.

That’s what Jancy Brown, Communications Coordinator for the Woman’s Sexual Assault Centre of Renfrew County, is saying about the event. “Take Back The Night is an important event every year that we hold it,” she says. This year the focus of the event was commemorating the memory of a sexual assault monument they put up in Eganville that was vandalized earlier this year.

Around 50 woman and children attended this year, she said. “It’s powerful to see multiple generations walk and talk together,” Brown says.

“Woman have always had strong voices,” Browns says. She goes on to say, “the feeling with the #MeToo movement that’s been happening throughout the year has been culminated with events like Take Back The Night and  perhaps more woman feeling like they can come out in their local communities.” She says that what’s happened over the past few years has helped woman feel bolder about going out and talking about what has happened to them.

“We are the same unified voice saying it needs to stop,” Brown says.
