Barry’s Bay will have a licensed day-care once we ring in the new year in a few months.

That’s because construction on the addition to St. John Bosco Catholic School is nearing competition. Bill Smith, Executive Director of the Community Resource Centre in Killaloe, says they’ll be expanding on the already on-going before and after-school programs. They’re expanding to add a pre-school and toddler rooms. When opened, Smith says it will be a fully licensed daycare. The first of its kind in Barry’s Bay.

“Access to licensed child care is so important. It enables families to go out and join the workforce,” Smith says. “It leads to economic and community development,” he went on to say.

Smith says it will be staffed by registered early childhood educators. “It’s a high quality program,” he says.

The target for opening the daycare is the beginning of January, Smith says. It’s all dependant on construction and getting license done though, he adds.
