Over six decades after it got there, an Avro Arrow test model has finally been pulled out of Lake Ontario.

Last July, crews from a team called “Raise the Arrow” began the search in Lake Ontario for Avro Arrow test models that had been flown into the lake 63 years earlier. After months of searching, the team says a number of smaller-scale test models had been found.

Last week, crews recovered one of three original free-light models that was launched during the design process of the Avro Arrow in 1954. According to Raise the Arrow, the model recovered has been delivered to CFB Trenton.

The Avro Arrow had its first manned test flight in 1958 by Jan Zurakowski, who lived in Barry’s Bay after his retirement and has a park located downtown in his honour.
