A new program to help isolated seniors will serve those in Madawaska Valley.

The initiative is called Seniors’ Centre Without Walls, and is a telephone-based activity program for senior citizens organized by The Good Companions Seniors’ Centre.

Noemie Gatien, a Resources Coordinator Seniors’ Centre Without Walls, says the program offers great ways for seniors to relieve loneliness and isolation, both factors that have been known to affect health.

Gatien says the program is cost-free, and can also be useful for those with physical disabilities that make it tough to leave home. She says there’s a wide variety of activities, each with their own access code, including games, jokes, sports talk as well as safety tips provided by the OPP.

Seniors’ Centre Without Walls serves residents across Renfrew County. To register, you can call 613-236-0428 ext. 2323.
