A camp for indigenous youth across Eastern Ontario hosted by the OPP has wrapped up in Golden Lake.
The 11th annual “Walking Forward” camp was held at Camp Lutherlyn, and saw 40(??) youth attend this year. Camp instructors included police officers from around Eastern Ontario as well as qualified youth camp councillors.
Camp Organizer and OPP Constable Jerry Novack says the camp is aimed at helping kids make a positive impact in their own communities.
Novack says while the camp is certainly rewarding for youth, it’s just as important for the police officers involved to build a positive relationship with people from indigenous backgrounds.
This was the third year for the camp in Golden Lake.
