Fire Chief: Fire Bans Not Followed Over Long Weekend

Despite it being over a month since a total burn ban was issued in Madawaska Valley, people still aren’t getting the message.

That’s according to Madawaska Valley Fire Chief Corwin Quade, who says it was another busy long weekend for crews in the area.

Quade says that eight charges were laid over the weekend because of illegal burning, including one person being charged twice in 30 minutes. Quade says that while he doesn’t like having a ban during long weekends, it’s something that needs to be done for the safety of others.

Madawaska Valley has been under a total burn ban since July 6th and is also in a Fire Restricted Zone, which is issued by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. Quade says this fire ban is like nothing the township has ever seen, as most bans usually only last a few weeks at most.

During a total burn ban, residents can’t have any open fires of any kind. Wood and charcoal barbeques also aren’t allowed during a total ban.
