County of Renfrew Paramedics are once again testing new and innovative equipment in the field.

In recent months, local paramedics have used various pilot projects including a new portable ultrasound machine and remote patient monitoring. Now they’re testing a new portable medical records software called Prehos, which can be used on smartphones and tablets by paramedics.

Chief Paramedic Michael Nolan says the new database will make it easier to access patient information on-scene.

Prehos is a Quebec-based system and is being used for the first time in the field by paramedics in Renfrew County. Nolan says that with the new equipment also comes new training, but that doesn’t necessarily mean paramedics missing work to learn the new software.

Nolan feels County of Renfrew Paramedics have been very fortunate to be used as pilot projects for innovations in the paramedic industry.
