Bancroft’s 2017 construction budget shifts focus to Detlor Road

Bancroft Council has voted in favour of putting the town’s entire 2017 construction budget towards Detlor Road repairs.

That’s because Public Works Manager Perry Kelly reports the cost to repair Detlor Road would be over $270,000, which is more than the town had allocated for all road repairs this year. Of the more than $234,000 set aside for road repairs in Bancroft’s 2017 budget, Detlor Road was supposed to receive $150,000. However, Councillor Barry McGibbon points out patching the road has become a full-time job.

Perry Kelly says focusing this year’s construction budget on the extremely busy road will benefit Bancroft residents.

Kelly also says the improvements to Detlor Road will help ensure it lasts longer.

But, the decision will cause a couple construction projects to be put on hold. Chemaushgon Road repairs and the cost to lease a work truck will now be put off until 2018. Repairs to Maxwell Settlement Road will happen this year, although town staff will have to use resources that are already available to them.

Kelly expects repairs to Detlor Road will be completed by the end of August.
