The Township of Madawaska Valley is helping the local Horticultural Society to get dirty as part of a special Canada 150 tree planting initiative.

All hands were on deck Saturday morning at Lakeshore Park in Barry’s Bay as members planted 33 Colorado Spruce trees around the water treatment facility.

Club President Peter Dolan it’s an important partnership.

Former president Sharon Mahussier says the volunteers from the over 160-member strong group put a lot into beautification of the community.

Recreation and Community Development Coordinator for the township, Paul Nopper says it’s no coincidence the first of many possible improvements coming to the park is being carried out in partnership with a community organization.
