Our local MPP says the recent increase to minimum wage will have positive and negative impacts.
John Yakabuski says there are concerns over how quickly the raise will be introduced and how that will impact local businesses.
Yakabuski says proportionately it means those who have worked enough to earn $15 an-hour currently will be asking for raises as minimum wage increases.
However, he says new changes to labour laws such as equal pay for part time workers and making it easier to form unions are needed.
The province says minimum wage will be raised to $14 beginning in 2018 and then to $15 in 2019.
