Senior dinner series: Come for the food, stay for the connection

A seniors dinner series will feature food and conversation with an educational or entertainment aspect.

Older adults in South Algonquin and area can connect through the Community Connections: Senior Dinner Series.

Funded through a $23,800 provincial grant, the first of eight dinners is Aug. 27 at Madawaska Recreation Centre.

Guests can enjoy a chicken and beef BBQ meal along with a presentation from OPP on scams and fraud.

Dinners will rotate between Whitney and Madawaska.

Other dinner ideas include an early Christmas concert with turkey and fixings, a fish fry, a spaghetti dinner, a Chinese New Year meal and an Irish-themed meal in March.

Speakers from a mobile hearing clinic and the Alzheimer’s Society are part of the series, amongst others.

In addition to a nutritious meal, guests can enjoy social connection and wellness while the project aims to reduce social isolation, promote healthy aging, improve access for homebound seniors, and increase awareness of safety and fraud-prevention resources.
