Health officials say it’s time to start thinking about getting vaccinated.
Renfrew County and District Health Unit said in a media release that flu activity across the province is increasing earlier than unusual, so residents are encouraged to get vaccinated as soon as eligible.
The health unit says COVID-19, flu, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and pneumococcal disease can lead to serious illness and hospitalization, especially among older adults and high-risk individuals.
Vaccination remains one of the most effective ways to protect yourself and others during the fall and winter months.
COVID-19 and flu vaccines will be available starting Oct. 13 for high-risk and priority populations. Vaccination will open to everyone aged six months and older on Oct. 26.
Pharmacies will provide access to COVID-19 and flu vaccines for residents age two and older. Residents can contact their health care provider, and the health unit will offer community clinics this fall.
Pneumococcal vaccines will also be available for eligible residents.
